Kount: The World Anti-Doping Agency of the Online Gaming World
It only seems like last week when Queen Elizabeth and 007 parachuted over London to mark the start of the 2012 Summer Olympics. But, here we are again for the 2016 games, this time from Rio de Janeiro.
Her Majesty didn’t parachute into Rio, apparently she is getting a bit too old for that sort of thing. But she wasn’t the only one who was missing in action; the entire Russian track and field team, along with athletes from many other disciplines, are staying at home.
For those of us with long enough memories, the Olympics wasn’t the Olympics without a boycott. The US team missed the 1980 Moscow games in protest of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and the Soviet team boycotted the 1984 Los Angeles games in counter-protest.
The Russian absence this time isn’t due to reheated Cold War politics; it’s due to cheating. Or, more specifically, what appears to be state sponsored doping of athletes by Russian authorities.
At Kount, we take as dim a view of cheating as does the World Anti-Doping Agency.
Regular readers will know that Kount sets the industry standard for stopping fraud, challenging chargebacks and boosting profit. But how many of you know that we are also on the side of honest gamers who want to play online games free of cheats?
The online gaming world can be as rife with cheats as the Tour de France in the early 1990s. Cheats, working on an almost industrial scale in places such as China, will farm gold coins, boost online player stats and take over accounts and then sell them on at a profit to less scrupulous gamers.
While none of this is strictly illegal, it does stack the odds against the honest games who want to play fairly.
And it does harm gaming operators. After all, who wants to invest time and money in an online gaming environment that’s rife with cheats and where regular gamers don’t stand a chance unless they pay out to the cheat gangs to get the edge?
Kount helps gaming operators run a safe environment which is free from cheats and offers a fair and level playing field. It’s good news for gamers and it’s good news for gaming operators.
